Steel Exporters’ Association announced export of January-July 2017 period. Accordingly, when iron and steel products entering the activity area of other steel companies are added to the direct exports of the steel industry, Turkey’s total steel exports in the 7 months of 2017 amounted to 11 million 300 thousand tons in quantity and 7 billion 800 million dollars in value.
In the January-July period of 2017, steel exports increased by 15.3 percent to 10 million 900 thousand tons, while value increased by 30.8 percent to 6 billion 600 million dollars. While the EU countries have maintained their leadership in terms of regions, the sector has been in a boom in the Far East. Exports of the Turkish steel sector in July amounted to $ 800 million, up by 12.2 percent and 1 million 200 thousand tons, respectively, compared to the same month of the previous year.
EU COUNTRIES IS THE FIRST LINE IN STEEL EXPORTS OF 3.3 MILLION TONS
According to January-July period of the year of 2017; European Union exports increased by 79 percent to 3 million 300 thousand tons. The European Union also maintained its leadership among the regions during this period. The European Union followed the Middle East with 2 million 400 thousand tons, the North American countries with 1 million 600 thousand tons and the North African countries with 799 thousand tons.
The rise in the Far East market, which the Turkish steel industry focused on to increase exports, also continued. Steel exports to this region, where Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaysia are located in the first place, rose by 591 percent to 785 thousand tons on a 7 month basis.
When compared to the same period of 2016 in January-July of the steel sector, the top 5 countries that experienced the largest increase in exports by quantity were respectively; Italy, Spain, Singapore, Canada and the United Kingdom.
WE EXPORT TO CANADA 121 THOUSAND TONS STEEL CONSTRUCTION
In the January-July period, the number of steel products exported in terms of quantity did not change in the first place, and construction steel took the first place with 3 million 500 thousand tons of exports despite 17.2 percent decrease.
Exports of construction steel were flat hot with 1 million 600 thousand tons followed by 1 million 600 thousand tons of welded pipes, 854 thousand tons of profiles and 836 thousand tons of wire rod. During this period, construction steel was found to be in a moral tone with its Canadian surprise, with its exports declining.
In the January-July period of last year, Could not make construction steel exports to Canada, while in the same period this year, 121 thousand tons of construction steel exported.
Steel exports increased to 1.2 million tons in JULY
Exports of July 2017 increased by 12 percent on a quantity basis by 1 million 200 thousand tons compared to the same month of the previous year, while the value increased by 32.4 percent to 800 million dollars.
Namik Ekinci, Chairman of the Union of Steel Exporters, said that despite the problems experienced in foreign markets, the sector displayed a good performance in exports during the seven months of the year, said:
“Especially in the exports of construction steel, it is seen that we are in the Middle East and Egypt with no losses, in this period the first five countries with the highest decrease in steel exports in quantity are the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Oman, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, We are determined to continue to work closely with our exporters in order to contribute to the export and growth of Turkey in the rest of the year despite the negativities “
